Mobile games generated US$107 billion in 2023

Much to the chagrin of “hardcore gamers,” mobile games continue to be an unrivaled force in bringing in money year after year. Even with a slight drop of 2%, revenue from this type of game reached US$ 107 billion last year, according to statistics company Data.ai.

The company's analysis, released by the Games Industry website, brings some interesting rankings with the highest numbers of spending and downloads around the world. Below, the list of countries where mobile games earned the most in 2023:

• China: US$37.6 billion
• USA: US$ 24 billion
• Japan: US$12.78 billion
• South Korea: US$6.34 billion
• Germany: US$2.6 billion.

The variation in values in the ranking is impressive, with Germany spending just a fraction of what was spent in China. Data.ai also prepared another ranking, of the countries that download the most mobile games in general – regardless of spending. And this time Brazil appears on the list!

• China: 29.32 billion downloads
• India: 9.66 billion
• Brazil: 4.62 billion
• USA: 4.55 billion
• Indonesia: 3.38 billion

The most profitable mobile games in 2023

Data.ai reports that the games that made players spend the most in 2023 were Evony, Lineage M and Honkai: Star Rail. For some reason, in this case the company did not talk about concrete numbers.

To close with another ranking, the statistics company released the highest revenues from mobile games by genre:

• RPG: US$24.5 billion
• Strategy: US$10.7 billion
• Matching games (like Candy Crush): US$ 10.2 billion
• Casino: US$8.3 billion.
